DIY Owl House measurements according to Dr Gerhard Verdoorn The owl box dimensions are as follows: use 9 mm marine plywood. Make the base 600 mm by 400 mm. Cover the two long sides and one short side with walls 400 mm high. Fit a roof as well. In the open side fit a 50 mm doorstep to keep eggs and chicks inside. Paint the box with two coats of boiled linnseed oil to weatherproof the wood. Fit the owl box at least 4 meters high under the overhang of a roof or up in a big tree.
